Water Polo Sweeps MAAC Post-Season Awards
May. 2, 2005 EDISON, NJ-- Shanna Allen has been named the 2005 MAAC Water Polo Offensive Player of the Year, while Iona's Kim Trebon was selected Defensive Player of the Year by the league's head coaches and headlines this season's All-MAAC Teams. Allen, a junior from Mechanicsburg, PA finished first on the team in assists (41), second on the team in goals (48), points (89) and points per game (3.56). She was also first on the team in steals with 57. Allen was selected Offensive Player of the Week twice during the regular season. Freshman Caitlin Smith and Wagner's Billy Hoelck were selected Co-Rookies of the Year. Smith (Miami Springs, FL) led the team in shots (192), goals (78), points (104) and points per game (4.16). She was selected Rookie of the Week twice during the regular season and ranked as high as eight in the nation in goals. Allen and Trebon are joined on the All-MAAC First Team are Iona's Megan Hansen (Long Beach, CA), Marist's Allison Rader (Lansdale, PA), Villanova's Kim Pare (Grand Rapids, MI), and Wagner's Courtney Crase (Saratoga, CA) and Katie Hauck (Pottsville, PA). Head coach Rob Swingle and Wagner's Patrick Beemer were selected the 2005 Anaconda Sports Co-Coaches of the Year.
