Siena water polo may not have qualified for the 2012 MAAC Tournament, but the Green and Gold's presence was felt Friday night at the annual awards banquet in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Most notably, senior Katie Ness, fresh off a team-record 78 steals in 2012, was named the conference's Co-Defensive Player of the Year and an All-MAAC First Team selection.

Ness made her final year in Loudonville one to remember. She led the Saints in steals (78), goals scored (47), and field blocks (36), and added 34 assists, 81 points, a .431 shooting percentage, and 22 ejections drawn. She shared Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors with Wagner's Laura Karbach and Marist's Rebecca Thomas.

Additionally, Ness and three other Saints made the 2012 MAAC All-Academic Team. The honoree was joined by senior Traci Robertson, junior Rebecca Robinson, and sophomore Brittany Tayler.

The Saints went 9-21 in 2012, and went 4-8 in MAAC play.
