Saints Split in Canada
Oct. 17, 2006 LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Saints crossed the boarder this weekend for two exhibition matches at the University of Toronto. Saturday, Siena took down Toronto 9-4. Sophomore Lauren Biehle (Visalia, Calif./Golden West) registered the game winner at the three minute mark in the second period. The Saints dropped the second match of the day 10-7 to the Ontario Provincial Zone Team. Lauren Garrigan (Kailua, Hawaii/Kamehameha) tallied three goals in the contest. "We were very happy with the trip as a whole," said head coach Rob Swingle. "Not only with the results in the water, but having a chance to play different teams in a new venue was a great experience. Our team learned a lot about each other over the weekend, and we have a good idea of where we need to focus our energy for the rest of our practices this semester." Biehle anchored the offensive attack for the Saints versus Toronto posting five goals. Sophomore Lynn Whitmire (Houston, Texas/Cypress Ridge) added two goals herself in the winning effort. The Saints entered the second half with a one goal lead. They quickly mounted their scoring attack early in the third period, rattling off four straight goals setting the game out of reach. Goaltender Lisa Reilly (Whittier, Calif./California High School) registered 11 saves on the game. The Saints dropped the second game 10-7 to the Ontario Provincial Zone Team. Garrigan lead the team with three goals in the contest. Junior Kaedy Graves (Lake Worth, Fla./Lake Worth Community) tallied eight saves in net. Reilly added another six in the game.
Outside the pool, the Saints had an opportunity to sightsee. The student-athletes made their way to Niagara Falls, where most of the players got to share in this beautiful experience for the very first time. Overall, the Saints took advantage of this great experience just north of the border. |
