Water Polo Drops MAAC Contest to Iona

Siena Water Polo battled Iona in Lexington, Virginia on Saturday to continue MAAC play. The Gaels took the victory 13-3. Daniella Fuertes lead Siena with 2 goals.

Siena (2-20, 2-5) fell behind early in the contest, trailing 5-1 after the first period and 9-1 at the half. Diana Fernandez scored the Saints’ lone goal in the first 16 minutes. Siena was more effective in the second half, scoring two goals compared to four for the Gaels.

Fuertes netted both her scores in the fourth quarter to make the final score 13-3. Madison Obata and Clare Bryar recorded one assist each in the contest. Fernandez drew two ejections for the Saints.

Goalie Kennedy Joseph saved seven shots on goal, while Carly Jackson-Clark added six saves. Joseph, Fernandez, and Bryar recorded two steals each in the game.

The Saints return to the pool Sunday, April 2 in Lexington, Virginia. Siena will battle La Salle at 10:30 a.m. and St. Francis Brooklyn at 4 p.m. to close out the weekend.
