Water Polo Wins One on Senior Day

Siena Water Polo hosted its first two home games at the Siena Swim Center on Sunday. The Saints fell 15-9 to VMI to start the day but rebounded with an 11-8 win over Villanova after the Senior Day Ceremony. Diana Fernandez had ten goals in the two games and Carly Jackson-Clark totaled 23 saves in the two contests.

Game One: VMI 15, Siena 9

In the Saints’ first game of the day, the VMI Keydets took the win 15-9 over Siena. Four-time MAAC Rookie of the Week Diana Fernandez continued her strong offensive season, scoring six goals. Fernandez also drew four ejections in the game. Clare Bryar netted two goals for Siena and Nichol Feldtz added one.

Carly Jackson-Clark saved 12 shots in the game, while Kennedy Joseph added two. Daniella Fuertes had three assists in the contest. Bryar added two assists.

Game Two: Siena 11, Villanova 8

To close out Senior Day, the Saints avenged an earlier MAAC loss, taking down Villanova 11-8. Siena trailed 5-4 at the half, but came back with three goals in the third to lead 7-5 heading into the final stanza. Fernandez scored four goals in the game and added two assists and three steals.

 

 

Senior Sarah Abbott scored a goal in the fourth for Siena and classmate Jackson-Clark was strong in goal with 11 saves. Terez Touhey and Bryar scored three goals each in the contest for Siena to help the team to its second MAAC win in two days.

The Saints return to the pool next weekend in Lexington, Virginia. Siena will battle Iona on Saturday, April 1 and face La Salle and St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday, April 2.
