The Siena water polo squad opened up their three-game West Coast stay with a 7-5 loss to Division III Whittier College on Tuesday.  Madeline Hurley had nine saves and the Saints totaled ten steals in the loss.

Siena (6-10) fell behind in the second quarter, and only scored one goal in the first half with Stephanie Bundas touching net for the only tally.

The Poets (10-15), who gained their second win against a MAAC tean this season (they also beat VMI) scored four goals in the third to gain their advantage.

Siena only tallied four goals in the second half and only shot 20 percent in the contest.  Brianna Ritota and Kimi Chavez notched goals in the third quarter with Lea Allen and Bundas hitting one in the fourth.

Five different Saints racked up one assist including Cally Timm, Jasmine Carrillo, and Jacquelyn Verdon.

The Poets evened the all-time series with the Saints at two, in the series starting in 2007.  It was the second best defensive effort for the Saints this season.

Siena will continue their West Coast against Chapman University tomorrow at 11 a.m.
