The Siena water polo team traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich. for the Wolverine Invitational this weekend. The Saints had an early morning match with Pacific, dropping the 12-4 decision and faced Fresno Pacific in the afternoon in a 9-7 defeat.
Stephanie Bundas led the Saints against Pacific as she continues to lead the Saints in goals and total points after scoring two goals, with one steal against Pacific. Bundas also led the team defensively, earning three ejections drawn.
Jacque Verdon scored the remaining two goals for the Saints. Verdon’s goals came in the third and the fourth quarters.
Led by Samantha Voelker’s three steals, Siena had a strong defensive effort as they tallied a total of 10 steals in the game. Melanie Boehrig and Jacque Verdon were the other Saints to record multiple steals.
Madeline Hurley faced 15 shots on goal and recorded eight saves to go with her two steals and one assist.
The Saints led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter before Fresno Pacific went on a 6-1 run over the next two quarters. Carrillo scored her two goals in the fourth as the Saints outscored Fresno Pacific 4-2 in the final quarter, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 7-3 deficit they faced heading into the fourth.
Water polo is back in action tomorrow for day two of the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. They will play host Michigan at 8 a.m. followed by their match with Gannon at 11:30 a.m.
