The Siena water polo team needed the extra period to put the Chapman Panthers away for their third straight win on Tuesday night in Orange, Calif. Stephanie Bundas scored the winning goal just 24 seconds into the sudden death overtime to give the Saints a 10-9 win.
"Right from the first quarter there was a lot of intensity, we moved the ball well and defensively did a great job," said coach Ellen Howe. "Our squad played hard and you can't ask for much more than that as a coach. It was a big win."
Leading by 5-3 heading into the fourth, Chapman outscored the Saints 6-4 as the Panthers forced overtime before Bundas won the game in the extra quarter on her third goal of the game. Melanie Boehrig joined Bundas as she scored a goal in each quarter for game high four goals.
Taylor Young scored her third goal in two days as the freshman is starting to become a consistent scorer as she settles into the speed of the collegiate game. Lea Allen and Jacque Verdon each scored a goal in the Saints win.
Madeline Hurley started in goal and recorded a season high 24 saves as she faced 33 shots on goal. Hurley improves her record to 3-6 as the Saints improve to 4-7 overall.
The Saints have a quick turn around when they play Whittier tomorrow night at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT as they look to make it four straight wins.
