The Siena College water polo team fell to Saint Francis (N.Y.), 13-2, in the opening game before dropping its final two contests of the afternoon to Queens, 17-6, and Marist 14-11. With the loss, the Saints are 0-4 on the season.
In the first match vs. St. Francis, the terriers managed to put away 12 of their 13 goals before Siena got on the scoreboard in the final seconds of the third quarter. The Saints and Terriers then scored one more goal each for the 13-2 final.
Shanna Allen and Erica Strein were credited with Siena's only goals.
Zuzana Gaborova led St. Francis with five goals while Jelena Malikovic netted three.
In game two, Queens proved to be too much for Siena, as the Knights defeated the Saints 17-6. Siena saw a 2-1 lead in the first quarter before Queens opened fire in the second scoring eight goals while holding Siena to just two. Siena was unable to catch up, scoring only two goals in the second half while the Knights netted another eight goals to take the 17-6 victory.
Strein and Allen again proved to be a scoring threat as they combined for five of Siena's six goals.
Queens was led by Alice Bain with five goals.
In the final game of the afternoon, Siena suffered its fourth loss of the season, and second setback to Marist College in a closely fought battle. Marist jumped out to a 6-2 first quarter lead. The Saints and Red Foxes then matched goals in the second, netting three apeice for a 9-5 halftime score. Marist added one more goal to their lead, outscoring the Saints 4-3 in the third quarter, before Siena fired back with three goals in the fourth while holding Marist to just one, but time ran out on the Saints and the Red Foxes walked away with teh 14-11 victory.
Allen capped off the afternoon with five goals while Strein and Collins added three apiece.
Siena returns to action on the March 22 when the travel to Bucknell for a two-day, four-game tournament.
