Siena Swept on Day One of Claremont Convergence
March 9, 2012
Siena stumbled in the first day of the team's west coast swing, falling 9-4 to Occidental and 11-9 to Whittier in double-overtime. The losses dropped the Saints to 3-8 on the year with two games left to play at the Claremont Convergence.
The day began with a defensive battle against Occidental, one that went in the loss column for the Green and Gold. Rebecca Robinson, Katie Ness, Melanie Boehrig, and Jacquelyn Verdon all scored one goal apiece, with Boehrig keying the defensive effort with a team-high four steals.
Siena's second game of the day was a tight one, and one that needed extra time to crown a winner. Ness had four goals and five steals, while Lea Allen scored twice, Traci Robertson added a goal and four steals, and reigning MAAC Rookie of the Week Madeline Hurley had 12 saves. However, it wasn't enough for the Saints, who dropped the two-goal decision.
Siena continues play at the Claremont Convergence on Saturday with games against Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer.
