Watch Sunday's Siena-Niagara Match
MAAC Championships Match Notes
In 2003 and '04, the Siena volleyball program won 14 games - combined. Now just five short years later, seventh year head coach Garvey Pierre has his Saints focused on bringing a fifth straight MAAC Championship trophy to Loudonville. Siena begins its quest Sunday at 4 p.m. when the third-seeded Saints battle #2 seed Niagara in a MAAC Semifinals matchup at the Koessler Athletic Center in Buffalo, N.Y. Siena enters the championships undefeated in the month of November and has won six matches in a row overall. Senior middle blocker Burgandy McCurty has been a major key to the program's success and is the nation's leader in kills (558) and kills/set (5.47). Niagara set a program-record with 21 overall wins and 14 victories in MAAC matches this season. The two squads split the regular-season series with Niagara capturing a 3-1 victory in Western New York on Oct. 3, while the Saints returned the favor with a thrilling five-set victory on Senior Day Nov. 8 in Loudonville. The winner of this match will face the winner of #1 Fairfield vs. #4 Marist on Monday night. The Saints and Stags split this year, while the Red Foxes swept Siena.
