Siena freshman setter Haley Howell wrapped up a standout first season by being named MAAC Rookie of the Week for a sixth time Tuesday. Howell led the conference in assists per set in MAAC matches this year.
Howell averaged 12.3 assists per set in two Siena wins to close the year. She had 50 assists in Siena's four-set win over Rider, marking her fourth 50+ assist effort of the season. Howell orchestrated a balanced attack, as four different Saints finished in double figure kills against the Broncs.
She closed the season with 36 assists and three aces in the sweep of Saint Peter's. Howell served long runs in both matches, helping the Saints close the year with four straight wins to tie for third in the conference.
Howell and the Saints finished the season in a three-way tie for third in the MAAC, but failed to qualify for the Tournament after losing the tiebreaker. The MAAC Championships will be contested on the Saints' home court this weekend. The semifinals are Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. and the Championship match is Sunday at 1 p.m.
