Siena volleyball senior outside hitter Briana Flagg and senior libero Kalehua Katagiri were named to the All-MAAC teams, as selected by the league’s 10 head coaches. Flagg was named to the First Team, while Katagiri earned Second Team honors.
A Naperville, Illinois native, Flagg leads the Saints with 335 kills for 3.56 kills per set. Flagg was named to the MAAC First Team last fall as well as being named MAAC Player of the Year. In four years with the Saints, Flagg has tallied 800 kills and 756 digs. She is ranked seventh on the single-season kills per set list with 4.01 in 2015.
A Kaneohe, Hawaii native, Katagiri leads the MAAC in both digs and digs per set. She averaged 5.10 digs per set, while totaling 515 digs on the season. Katagiri has recorded 1038 total digs in her two seasons with the Saints and is now ranked 10th on the Saints Career Digs list. Her 4.97 digs per set on her career are second in the digs per set list for Siena. Right now, her 5.10 digs per set during the 2016 season rank third on the single-season records, while her 515 digs are seventh on the single-season records.
Five Saints were named to the All-Academic Team. Seniors Ramona Georgescu (Actuarial Science), Katagiri (Psychology) and Sonja Vasovic (Economics) earned All-Academic honors. Junior Samantha Pethokoukis earned the honors while majoring in Economics, while redshirt-freshman Julia Burzynski was named to the team while majoring in Accounting.
Siena will face #5 Rider in the Quarterfinals of the MAAC Tournament on Friday, November 18 at 8 p.m.
