Taylor Akana earned the third MAAC Player of the Week honor of her career Monday. The Preseason MAAC Player of the Year helped the Saints to league wins over Loyola and Rider in the ARC this weekend.
Akana (Kaneohe, Hawaii/Kamehameha) enjoyed an historic match in Siena's four-set win over the Greyhounds Saturday. She finished with 22 kills and no errors in 39 attacks on the outside, keying Siena's most efficient offensive output in five years. The junior dominated the match, posting eight more kills than any other player, and added 11 digs.
In Siena's win over Rider the next day, Akana racked up her 13th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs. She helped the Saints get out of the gate strong posting four kills and five digs in the first set.
Akana averaged 4.0 kills and 3.12 digs per set on the week, added three service aces, and posted a .983 reception percentage with just one error in 60 serve receives.
Akana enters Wednesday night's home match against Iona with 1,201 career kills and 916 digs. Only three players in program history have amassed 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs, and Akana is on pace to do it in less than three years.
