Just 10 days ago, the Siena volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking setback to archrival Fairfield on UHY Court at the ARC. The Saints let a 2-0 lead slip away, and fell to 1-3 in league play.
Head coach Garvey Pierre and the Saints are out to prove much has changed in that short time period. The Saints are coming off their most impressive showing of the season - a 3-0 drubbing of Marist at home on September 29 - and then enjoyed a rare off weekend.
"We have really been focusing in practice, and I like what I see," Pierre said. "The team is coming together. We have a young group, but we have a lot of talent. If we play together the way we are capable of doing, we can surprise a lot people."
It's unlikely the Saints will sneak up on the Stags.
Siena defeated Fairfield in the MAAC Championship game four straight years from 2005-08 (despite finishing second in the conference behind the Stags three times during that stretch). The two squads have waged some epic battles in the Pierre era, including Fairfield's win here September 25.
The Stags have reeled off five straight victories in conference play, and sit alone in second place in the standings at 5-1, trailing only defending champ Niagara. Siena looks to even its MAAC record tonight (2-3).
