Siena College junior Lauren Weber (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) was selected MAAC Volleyball Player of the Week today. The announcement came on the heels of Weber's best statistical performance of her career in which she registered 39 kills and 86 attacks in the Saints' comeback win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday.
Weber, who leads the Saints in nearly every statistical category, averaged six kills and five digs per game in a 1-1 week for Siena. Weber's final kill of the week marked the end of a dramatic comeback victory in which the Saints trailed by 13-9 in the decisive fifth game (scored by rally scoring to 15).
Wewber's 39 kills were the most of her career and the most by any Saint in the last five years (Tracy Correale 41 vs. Iona 1997). The 86 attacks also marked a career high.
In Siena's three-game loss to Army on September 11, Weber recorded almost half of the team's total digs with 16. On the week, she also added two service aces and three blocks.
On the season, Weber has averaged 5.17 kills and 4.0 digs per game. The 5-11 outside hitter was last year's MAAC co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Weber and the Saints return to action tonight against St. John's University at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Recreation Center.
