Senior outside hitter Lauren Weber (Sayville, N.Y./Connetquot) was the only Saint named to the 2003 Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference Volleyball Preseason All-MAAC Team, it was announced recently. In addition, Siena tied for seventh-place with Marist College in a preseason poll voted on by the league's 10 head coaches. Fairfield University and Manhattan College are both believed to be able to win this year's MAAC volleyball championship, as both schools tied for first place in the poll.
Weber saw action in all but two games for the Saints in 2002. She led the team in nearly every major category in 2002, breaking the school single-season record for kills with 515 (4.77/game). Her 409 digs from a year ago were 100 better than her nearest teammate.
Manhattan's Goedele Van Cauteren was selected as Preseason Player of the Year. Five of the MAAC's 10 school's are represented on the Preseason All-MAAC Team.
Siena finished in a tie for seventh-place with Marist College with 40 points, eleven shy of sixth-placed Loyola College(51). Fairfield University and Manhattan College topped the list, tying for first-place with 82 points apiece. Third-place Iona College (75) sat seven points behind the two first-place teams, followed by fourth-place Saint Peter's College (69) and fifth-place Canisius College (60). Niagara University (35) and Rider University (16) rounded out the 10-team poll.
