Siena Volleyball was eliminated from the MAAC Tournament as #1 Fairfield advanced on a 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-18, 25-21) win in the semifinals. The Stags extended their winning streak to 21 matches, the longest in the nation.
The Saints started the first set off quick with a 5-1 lead. Fairfield followed that with a 6-1 run for their first lead of the set. After the Stags took a 6-5 lead, Siena would never be able to pass them. After a 12-12 tie, the final tie of the first set, Fairfield went on a 9-1 run for their biggest lead of the set. As Siena trailed 21-13, it was not over. Siena came right back into the set and trailed just 23-19. Fairfield took the first set 25-20.
Fairfield was able to use the momentum from the first set to start the second set with a 10-3 lead. It was all about Siena after that as the Saints did not quit and went on a 12-2 run to take a 13-12 lead. With Kalehua Katagiri behind the line serving Siena went up 24-20. The Saints dropped two set points, but were able to come out with the set 25-22.
The Stags started the third set the exact same was they started the second with a 10-3 lead. Siena stayed right in the set and trailed 18-14 after a 5-1 Saints run. Fairfield stayed in control and took the third set 25-18 for a 2-1 lead in the match.
There were five ties in the fourth set and Siena fought hard to take the set from the Stags. Fairfield took their largest lead of the set 16-12, but Siena came back and took a 19-18 lead. There was a lot of back and forth action but Siena trailed 21-20 . Fairfield went on a 3-0 run to take the match to send them into the Championship match.
Briana Flagg led the offense for Siena with 17 kills. Sonja Vasovic and Kelly Chaney added 11 kills each for the Saints. Haley Howell dished out 46 assists. Kalehua Katagiri tallied a match-high 31 digs, while Flagg and Vasovic 13 and 10 digs, respectively.
