Siena volleyball post-season play came to a close this evening with a 3-0 loss to Fairfield. Senior Joanne Saunders registered 14 kills and 10 digs on the day to continue the Stags' quest for a fifth consecutive MAAC Tournament Crown. With the victory, the Stags advance to the finals to face top seated St. Peter's College. The final match will be held tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. in the Alumni Recreation Center on the campus of 2001 MAAC Volleyball Tournament host, Siena College.

Carola Stowe tabbed 9 kills and 12 digs in the match, while Meghan Mahaffy added 34 assists for the Stags. For the Saints, Lauren Weber checked in with 10 kills and 10 digs while Sarah Watkins added 16 assists.

Fairfield dominated the match taking the first game 30-18. Game 2 was much the same story as the Stags dismissed the Saints 30-17. The Saints stepped it up in the final game of the day, but ultimately fell to a 30-23 defeat.

Today marks the end of a successful season for the 2001 Siena squad. Four Saints played their final game in the green and gold this afternoon, seniors Caroline Werdelin, Allison McCourt, Kelly Megyesi and Sarah Watkins wrapped up their Siena careers with 17-11 overall record this year, 7-3 in the MAAC. Watkins was selected to the five-member All-Tournament Team.
