Sophomore Meghann Wright led four players in double figure kills with 16 and the Saints fought back after dropping the first set to defeat Rider 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-18 and 25-22) Saturday in Loudonville. The victory keeps Siena alive in the race for a MAAC Tournament bid.
Jacqueline Skeen had 12 kills and six blocks, Taylor Akana had 12 kills and 18 digs, and Christina Monroe finished 11 of 17 swings (.471) for the Saints. Kelly Byrne had four of Siena's nine aces and libero Bobbi Lin Kalama collected 20 digs in the backrow.
Freshman setter Haley Howell handed out 50 assists and added eight digs in the win.
Jaclyn Weber, Ryan Ackermann and Bridget Sheerin each had 10 kills for Rider.
After dropping the first set 25-21, Siena trailed 13-9 in the second before rallying to even the match. The Saints controlled the third set, winning 25-18 and got back-to-back kills from Akana to finish off the Broncs in the decisive fourth set.
Akana and senior classmate Kelly Hurlburt will be honored in a special pre-match Senior Day ceremony Sunday at 1 p.m. before Siena faces Saint Peter's to end the regular-season.
