Seniors Abbie Maciolek, Leah Mizgalski and Diana Wierzba each played major roles in Siena's 3-1 season-ending triumph over Loyola in Loudonville Sunday. The win snapped a five-match losing streak for the Saints. Becky Corb led all players with 19 kills in a losing effort for Loyola.
The Saints won the first two games 30-26 and 30-24 before suffering a 30-19 setback in the third game. Loyola appeared to have seized the momentum, and held several leads in the decisive fourth game before the Saints rallied late to pull away with a 30-25 win.
Wierzba finished her career right, leading Siena with 13 kills. Christie Gustafson and Liz Hubbard each added 12 and Christa Glenn had 10. Mizgalski played one of the most effective matches of her career, adding to the Saints balance with nine kills. Maciolek played a strong match at setter, finishing with 49 assists and 11 digs.
Christine Lopez compiled 17 kills in just attacks manning the middle for the Greyhounds. Jamie Arndt led all players with 32 digs for the visitors.
Siena collected 23 blocks compared to 15 for Loyola. The Greyhounds out-dug the Saints 85-70.
With the victory, Siena ended the season 9-17 and 2-7 in MAAC play. Loyola finished its season with a 10-18 record and a 3-6 MAAC mark.
