Volleyball Holds Off Jaspers

Final Stats

Siena held off Manhattan 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 18-25, 25-20) in their second to last match of the regular season. The Saints have now won both matchups against the Jaspers this season.

Antonija Ivanovic led all players with 16 kills, while adding six digs for the Saints (7-21, 7-10 MAAC). Samantha Pethokoukis tallied 13 kills with an impressive .417 attack percentage. Jessica Eblin notched a double-double with 39 assists, 12 digs while adding three service aces.

Mary Donnelly led the Jaspers (2-28, 2-15 MAAC) with 10 kills. Alyssa Rehrer recorded 25 of Manhattan’s 54 digs, while Taylor Hasley dished out 27 assists.

After a tight beginning to the match, the Jaspers went on a 4-0 run, which caused the Saints to call timeout down 10-6. The Saints jumped right back in behind the serving of Dakota Jackson, Siena went on a 9-0 run which included four kills from Ivanovic to put the Saints ahead 21-15. Manhattan would put up a fight but it would be the Saints that would walk away with the 25-21 victory.

Just like the first set, the second frame started with an exchange of points back and forth with the score being tied at nine. Siena then went on a 8-1 run to lead 18-11. Manhattan would add to their score and hoped to slow down the Saints, but Siena jumped ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-18 second set win.

Manhattan came out of the intermission hoping to steal the set and not let Siena walk away with the match win. After leading 9-7, the Jaspers had two kills by Olyiva Chaltas, one from Jade Jeffrey along with three more points to jump ahead 15-7. Siena jumped right back into it and trailed by just four, 19-15, but they could not stop Manhattan who would force a fourth set 25-18.

 

 

Siena started the fourth set with Eblin recorded two service aces and behind her serving the Saints went up 4-0. Manhattan would rally and the league foes would exchange points back and forth. In the span of the Saints 5-0 run, the Jaspers would use both of their timeouts as Siena led 18-13. The Saints could not be stopped and the final kill from Ivanovic gave the Saints the victory 25-20.

The Saints travel to New Rochelle, New York to take on Iona in the final regular season match of the season on Sunday, November 12. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
