Siena Volleyball fell 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-18) to Fairfield on Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Stags earned their third straight regular season MAAC title.
Samantha Pethokoukis led the Saints (6-21, 6-10 MAAC) with 10 kills. Jojo Ishida tallied 12 digs, while Antonija Ivanovic added 11. Jessica Eblin dished out 20 assists and recorded two service aces for Siena.
Skyler Day recorded a match-high 12 kills, while Megan Theiller tallied eight. Taylor Rudeen tallied 15 digs, while Manuela Nicolini dished out 27 assists for Fairfield (21-6, 16-0 MAAC).
After a back-and-forth first set, the Saints trailed by just one 13-12 before Fairfield went on a 8-0 run to push themselves ahead 21-12. Siena was able to fight back and prevent the Stags from clinching the match point three times, but Fairfield would prevail and take the first set 25-18.
The Saints tied up the second set 7-7, but the Stags jumped ahead and led 11-7 before Siena used their first timeout. After taking one point, it would be Fairfield who again would jump ahead behind the serving of Sonja Radulovic, 16-8. The Saints fought but the Stags took the final three points of the set and would not look back and they took the second set 25-14 to go up 2-0 in the match at intermission.
With just one set away from a third straight regular season title, the Stags earned the first three points of the frame. Fairfield held onto their lead throughout the set, but behind the serving of Camila Davila the Saints made a comeback after being down 20-9 to trail just 21-14. It was Fairfield who would come out victorious with a 25-18 win in the third set to complete the sweep.
Siena travels to Riverdale, New York to take on Manhattan on Saturday, November 11. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
