Gulhan Cakcak's match-best 13 kills led Saint Peter's in a 3-0 win over visiting Siena in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference volleyball action Saturday afternoon.
Saint Peter's (8-16 overall, 5-2 MAAC) won the first game easily, 30-18, and never looked back, taking the next two games, 30-27 and 30-25. Siena (8-15, 1-5 MAAC) fought hard, but had no defensive answers for Cakcak (.550 attack pct., 13 kills, 2 errors, 20 attempts) or Valeria Kovaleva (.588 attack pct., 11 kills, 1 errors, 17 attempts).
Kovaleva, the freshman setter, had a season-high (for 3-game matches) 36 assists. Serra Soylu had 12 kills and a match-best four blocks, while Sasha Pshenychka record 3 aces to lead the Peahens.
Christie Gustafson led Siena with nine kills and nine digs, while Diana Wierzba had a match-best 4 aces for the Saints.
Siena takes on Manhattan tomorrow afternoon.
