Siena Falls to Fairfield in Volleyball Action

Fairfield, Conn.: The Fairfield University volleyball team started out slow and trailed by as much as seven points, but rallied for six unanswered points off Becky Guess ' serve and eventually came back to win game one 30-27, on their way to a 3-0 match victory over Siena tonight at Alumni Hall on senior night.

Co-captain seniors Joanne Saunders and Meghan Mahaffy each had solid performances in their final home MAAC match for the Stags. Saunders recorded a double-double with 17 kills and match-highs for digs with 20 and service aces with three. Mahaffy notched six kills, eight digs, and a match-high 42 assists. Junior Conny Paul led the field with 24 kills. As a team, the Stags hit an impressive .325.

Siena, who suffered their first conference loss of the season tonight, was led by Lauren Weber's 16 kills and nine digs. Sarah Watkins tallied 34 assists, and Jennifer Corkum registered 9 kills.

Fairfield, now 16-9 overall and 8-1 in the MAAC, will be back in action Thursday night at home against Uconn when they'll try to avenge their 3-0 loss of September 30th.
