Canisius (16-11/5-2 MAAC) registered 19 team blocks and took advantage of 38 Siena (5-20/2-7) attack errors en route to a 3-0 MAAC win over the Saints Sunday afternoon in Loudonville. Freshman Christie Gustafson led all players with 16 kills in a losing effort for Siena.
The Golden Griffins earned relatively easy victories in the first two games, coasting to a 30-23 win in the opener and a 30-20 triumph in the second game. The third game was even throughout, and the Saints actually held a 27-26 lead before succumbing 30-27.
The Saints held an unusual statistical advantage, registering 49 kills, compared to just 35 for Canisius. The Golden Griffins did much of their scoring off Siena miscues, taking advantage of eight service errors in addition to the 38 attack errors. Christina Wildes led the visitors with 11 kills and 16 digs.
Senior Lauren Weber notched 12 kills and a game-high 25 digs in her final home game. Classmates Katie Sarkovics, Kerry Pease and Amanda Carrk each started following a brief senior ceremony.
Siena closes out its schedule Tuesday, November 11 at Binghamton.
