Christie Gustafson and Lauren Weber led Siena (5-19/2-6 MAAC) with 25 and 24 kills respectively but it wasn't enough to offset visiting Niagara (7-18/3-3 MAAC), which rallied for a 3-2 in a MAAC volleyball match in Loudonville Saturday afternoon. Michelle LeSouder led the Purple Eagles with 24 kills.
Siena raced to an early 2-0 lead in the match winning the first game 32-30 and the second 30-27. In game three the Purple Eagles sprinted to a 7-0 lead off the serving of Valerie Arnone. The Saints were able to battle back to pull within a single point at 18-17. Niagara controlled the action from then on, cruising to a 30-21 victory.
Game four was a back and fourth contest late into the game before Jennifer Hansford served seven straight points and the Purple Eagles went on to win 30-26. Niagara took a 9-4 lead in the decisive fifth game before the Saints battled back. Thanks to the play of setter Katie Borrett, Siena was able to take a brief lead at 14-13 before Niagara scored the last three points of the game to win 16-14 and take the match.
The Saints were led by Christie Gustafson's match high 25 kills to go along with 8 digs. Lauren Weber (24 kills, 19 digs) and Katie Borrett (55 assists, 15 digs) also had strong performances for the Saints.
Stacy Koslosky added 16 kills in a winning effort for the Purple Eagles. Erin Graham chipped in 15 kills and 10 digs and Micole Daluisio added 23 digs.
