LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Volleyball edged Saint Peter's in a four-set contest 3-1 (25-12, 25-17, 19-25, 25-19) to pick up their fourth conference win of the season. The Saints have now beat the Peacocks in 27 straight matches.
Both Dakota Jackson and Antonija Ivanovic notched double-doubles for the Saints (4-19, 4-8 MAAC). Jackson tallied 14 kills and 10 digs, while Ivanovic recorded 12 kills and 14 digs. Samantha Pethokoukis added 10 kills, while Jessica Eblin dished out 51 assists.
Danielle Lopez recorded 11 kills for Saint Peter's (0-25, 0-13 MAAC). Alexus Sharp had five blocks on the match, while Karla Seda tallied 13 digs.
After being tied 3-3 to start the third set, Siena went on a 6-0 run that included two kills and an ace by Jackson to put the Saints up 9-3. While the Peacocks created a rally of their own, the Saints could not be caught and ended the set on a 7-1 run to take the first set 25-12.
The Saints started off the second set just as strong as the finished the first with a 9-1 lead over the Peacocks. Saint Peter's came right back into the set and trailed just 9-7 before the Saints were forced to use a timeout. Siena remained in the lead and would not let the Peacocks get close to the lead. Siena took a 2-0 lead heading into intermission with a 25-17 win in the second set.
Saint Peter's came into the third frame knowing they needed a win to continue the match. The Peacocks held a slight 11-7 lead before the Saints used their first timeout of the frame. Saint Peter's used four kills and an attack error by the Saints to go up 19-13. However, Siena would come right back and trail just 23-19 at the end of the set. However, a Siena service error and attack error would give the Peacocks the third set.
The Saints wanted to close out the match and started the fourth frame off on a 6-0 run. Saint Peter's would come into the set and give the Saints a rally, but late in the set the Saints recorded a quick 3-0 run to make a statement up 18-11. The Saints led 24-16 before the Peacocks were able to stop the match point for three point, but Siena's Brittney Herrick was able to notch the Saints victory with a kill.
Siena hosts Rider on Sunday, October 29 for their second match of a four-match homestand. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
