Tasha Johnston and Jamee Stimson each registered 10 kills as Fordham swept Siena 3-0 in women's volleyball action Sunday in Loudonville. Christie Gustafson led all players with 13 kills in a losing effort for Siena. The game was telecast throughout the Capital Region on Time Warner Cable Channel 3, and will be replayed throughout the week.
The Rams survived for a 30-26 win in the first game after Siena rallied briefly from a 29-20 deficit. The second game went the distance and after the Saints fought off three game points, Fordham earned a 32-30 win. In the decisive third game, the Saints built a seemingly insurmountable 28-25 lead before Fordham rallied to win the final five points and the match.
In addition to Gustafson, freshman Nadiege Honore collected double figure kills with 10. The Saints played well at the net, collecting 21 blocks, but Fordham had a more effective back row defense, out-digging the Saints 44-35. The loss dropped the Saints to 7-12 on the season after the team had come within a game of evening its record at 7-8 just over a week ago.
The match marked the start of a four-match homestand for the Saints who host Providence in another Time Warner televised contest Tuesday at 7 p.m.
