Shortly before Wednesday night's volleyball match between Siena (3-15) and Syracuse (15-6) was scheduled to begin, the lights went out in Siena's Alumni Recreation Center, forcing a one-hour delay in the start time. Shortly after play resumed, the Orangewomen turned the lights out on any hopes the Saints had of an upset.
Syracuse coasted to 30-18, 30-20 and 30-17 game victories, controlling the action throughout. Freshman Erin McQuillin killed 10 of her 13 attempts (.769) and teammate Morgan Jones led all players with 13 kills to pace the victory. Kathryn Dercher and Alia Dommestrup led Syracuse's two-setter attack with 22 and 18 assists respectively.
Freshman Christie Gustafson notched seven kills to lead the way for Siena. Gustafson also provided one of the few highlights for the home team, as Siena scored five straight points off her service in the second game to briefly tie the score at 19-19.
Siena returns to MAAC action this weekend at the Alumni Recreation Center. The Saints host Saint Peter's on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Manhattan Sunday at 1 p.m.
