Volleyball Improves to 2-0 in MAAC
Oct. 13, 2001
Baltimore, MD - Loyola's volleyball team lost 3-1 to Siena College Saturday at Reitz Arena before a noisy crowd of 125 in the season opener of MAAC conference play.
The defeat snaps the Hounds' two-game win streak and dropped their record to 3-14 on the season and 0-1 in conference play while Siena improves to 12-5 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC.
The Saints beat the Hounds out of the gate as they quickly went up two games to none winning game one, 30-21 and game two, 30-20. Loyola showed some signs of life in game three coming back to win 30-24. Game four also looked promising for the Hounds as they were up 17-16 at one point, but a late push by Siena drowned the home team, 30-21.
The Saints, once again, got a great day out of Lauren Weber as she racked up an impressive 24 kills and was all over the court on the defensive end, chasing down 24 digs. Also contributing to Siena's attack were Jennifer Corkum and Sarah Watkins. Corkum recorded 13 kills while Watkins posted 51 assists and 11 digs.
Katie Brockwell had another excellent outing for the Greyhounds with 18 kills and 18 digs. Krista Thorsen also played well for Loyola making 13 kills along with 7 digs in the loss. Mary Hamsher contributed to the Hounds' cause with 9 kills and 17digs, while Megan McGuire had 15 digs, and Tera Blevins dished out 41 assists.
Loyola will attempt to even-up their conference record tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they take to the Reitz Arena court to play MAAC foe Marist College.
