The Fairfield University women's volleyball team, behind a 23-kill, 11-dig performance from senior Laurie Brands, snapped its 11-match losing streak with a 3-2 (26-30, 30-27, 22-30, 30-17, 15-13) win over Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference rival Siena College on Sunday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
With the 23 kills Brands moves into fifth-place on Fairfield's (3-16, 1-1 MAAC) all-time kill list, passing Conny Paul (2000-01). Brands needed only three kills to pass Paul, heading into the match, and now has 982 career kills.
Senior Becky Guess added 13 kills for the Stags, and senior Kristin Anderson had 11.
Siena (3-14, 0-3 MAAC) was led by Lauren Weber with 21 kills and 22 digs, Christie Gustafson also posted a double-double for the Saints with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Freshman Keri Kaiser (Vista, Calif./Vista) had 43 assists for the Stags, while Senior Kelly Sorensen (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) added 15. Siena was led by Katie Borrett with a match-high 47 helpers.
The Stags had a .201 hitting percentage, while the Saints hit .096 on the afternoon. Fairfield enjoyed a 68-55 margin in kills, but the Saints had an 83-60 edge in digs.
Siena returns to action Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. against Syracuse in the Alumni Recreation Center.
