Setter Shawn McDonald controlled the pace from the get-go, masterfully distributing the ball to a myriad of outside and middle hitters as Seton Hall (14-6) made quick work of Siena (3-12) in Loudonville Tuesday evening. Jenna Meyers was the only player on either team in double-figure kills, and she notched just 10 as the Pirates used a balanced offense in converting 41% of their total attacks.
Seton Hall won the first two games by identical 30-18 scores pulling away from modest leads as the score approached 20. The Pirates then jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the decisive third game, before Siena made a mild rally to close within four points, 21-17.
Shawn Mahmould and Jessica Harrington chipped in nine kills a piece for the Pirates.
Siena returns to conference action this weekend at Iona and Fairfield.
