Preseason MAAC Player of the Year Burgandy McCurty finished off a monster week with a 21-kill effort as Siena swept Manhattan 3-0 (25-23, 25-20 and 25-21) in Loudonville Sunday. It was the fourth straight win for the Saints who won their first three home matches of the season this week.
Siena rallied from an 18-9 deficit to win 16 of the final 21 points in the opening set to claim an emotional 25-23 triumph. The loss was deflating, as Siena jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in the second set before the Lady Jaspers rallied to tie things at 12-12. After exchanging points until the second set was tied at 19-19, Siena closed strong as they have all week. The Saints won six of the final seven points to claim a 25-20 win. Siena won six of the final nine points in a tightly contested third set to take the match.
Siena controlled the match statistically, holding a 42-30 edge in kills and a 39-33 advantage in digs.
Manhattan was led by senior Sherryta Stokes who ended with 10 kills and seven digs.
In addition to McCurty, who also added seven digs and two blocks, senior captain Kelly Hummel chipped in 10 kills. Brianne Bobo came off the bench to contribute three aces and eight digs, and sophomore Amanda Begin finished with eight kills and four digs.
The Saints moved to 3-1 in league play with the win, while Manhattan falls to 2-2.
Siena hits the road next weekend to play Rider and Loyola.
