LOUDONVILLE, NY - In the battle of unbeaten in the MAAC, Quinnipiac took the crown to remain undefeated as they won 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19) over the Saints. This is the first time in the 16 meetings between the two teams that the Bobcats have defeated Siena. Bobbi Lin Kalama recorded 14 digs for Siena which places her sixth on the career records for digs at Siena.
Behind the serving of Kalehua Katagiri, the Saints went up 4-1 quickly in the first set and they were able to remain in control. Quinnipiac went on a 6-0 run behind the serving of Bobcat freshman Maria Pansari to lead 17-13. Siena was able to make a bit of a rally at the end of the set but Quinnipiac took the first set 25-23.
In the second set there were 13 ties and four lead changes and the MAAC foes battled it out for a victory. Neither team would let the other take a clear advantage as they fought to continue to their winning ways. Junior Elizabeth Kloos was serving for the Bobcats when they went on a 5-0 run for a 23-19 advantage. That small lead would give them the second set 25-20.
Once Quinnipiac started the third set 3-0 they would never give up the lead. Siena did not let the Bobcats run away with the set as they continued to battle. Quinnipiac took the third set and match 25-19.
With her 14 digs tonight, senior Bobbi Lin Kalama is now sixth on the Career Digs Lists with 1,345 digs. She is just five shy of being tied for fifth on the career list. Freshman Kelly Chaney tied Briana Flagg for a team-high nine kills, while Sonja Vasovic added eight. Haley Howell dished out 33 assists for the Saints. Kalehua Katagiri led the Saints with 20 digs.
Siena heads out on the road Saturday, Sept. 24th to face Marist. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
