No. 7 Michigan used a balanced attack to hand Siena its eighth straight 3-0 loss (25-14, 25-17 and 25-17) Friday afternoon in the Texas A&M Invitational. It was the fourth straight match the Saints played against an opponent from one of the six major power conferences.
As with yesterday, Siena gave a representative effort and had some promising developments. Freshman setter Haley Howell continued her progression with 18 assists and eight digs. Howell also killed both her attacks.
Rachel Stoklosa and Taylor Akana each had six kills and Meghann Wright added five. Siena out-blocked Michigan 7-5 behind sophomore middle Jacqueline Skeen's six block assists.
The first set was tight early before Michigan used a 12-2 run to take a commanding 21-10 lead. The Wolverines jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second set and scored the final three points in the third set to claim the match.
Siena returns to action Tuesday night at Binghamton. The home/MAAC opener will take place a week from Saturday against Iona at 1 p.m.
