The Siena volleyball team lost its home opener in four sets to Binghamton Wednesday night in the ARC. The Saints had defeated the Bearcats in five sets earlier this season in the Boston College Invitational.
Iva Partaleva led all players with 18 kills for Binghamton (2-9) after posting 20 in the first match between the two teams.
Siena (5-6) was victimized by 35 errors, misfiring on 27 attacks and eight serves.
Libero Lesli Akeo led all players with 18 digs for Siena. Taylor Akana was the only Saint to reach double figures in kills with 12.
Binghamton controlled the first set 25-18, but Siena rallied to square the match with a 25-21 victory in the second. After intermission, the match turned. Binghamton took the fourth set 26-24, rallying from a 21-19 deficit.
The Bearcats then jumped out to 6-1 and 11-3 leads in the fourth set, assuming control of the match. Siena reeled off five straight points behind the service of Elizabeth Ives to cut the lead to 11-8, but Binghamton bounced back to take firm control and earn a decisive 25-16 victory to seal the match.
After winning three straight matches to move to 5-4 on the season, Siena has lost back-to-back matches to Colgate and Binghamton -teams that have combined for just one win this season outside those contests.
The Saints need to figure things out quickly as they host three-time defending MAAC Champion Niagara here in the ARC on Saturday at 2 p.m.
