Sophomore Liz Hubbard recorded 21 kills in just 32 attacks to lead the Siena volleyball team (1-6) to a 3-1 victory over Colgate University (0-6) in the first match of the day at the Syracuse Invitational Saturday morning. The Saints dropped their second match to Binghamton 3-0.
Hubbard's explosive performance was flanked by freshman Christie Gustafson's 14 kills and senior Lauren Weber's 11. The Saints cruised to a 30-0 victory in the first game before dropping the second 30-27. Siena responded to earn a 31-29 victory in the third game and a 30-21 triumph in the decisive fourth. Freshman Katie Borrett tallied 51 of the team's 54 assists and killed four of her nine attempts.
In the nightcap, Binghamton controlled most of the action notching wins of 30-19, 30-22 and 30-22. Weber was the only Saint in double-figure kills with 11.
Siena returns to action at Central Connecticut State next Saturday.
