LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena Volleyball dropped a midweek non-conference contest 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-16) to Binghamton.
Kristella Morina led Binghamton (3-4) with 14 kills. Sarah Nigo dished out 36 assists for the Bearcats.
It was a quick start for Binghamton as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set. The Saints were able to battle back and trail just 11-9, but the Bearcats took a 4-1 run and held a 15-10 advantage. Binghamton finished the match on a 6-0 run that gave them the 25-17 first set victory.
The second set started off with an exchange of points between the instate rivals. Binghamton jumped out first with an 8-5 lead and never looked back. Siena came back within 5, 13-8. However, the Bearcats would use three kills, two service aces and a Siena ball handling error to go on a 7-0 run for a 20-8 lead. Binghamton would close out the set 25-11 for a 2-0 advantage.
Just like the first set, Binghamton jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Siena could not catch up with the Bearcats as they added to their lead 11-3. The Saints would make a run and bring the score within three, 15-12, but Binghamton kept adding points. The Bearcats would take the set and match 25-16.
Siena travels to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the Penn-LaSalle Tournament on Friday, Sept. 8 and Saturday, Sept. 9. Siena will face Robert Morris first on Friday at 3 p.m.
