After dropping its first five matches of the season, the Siena volleyball team got on the board with a 3-1 win over St. Francis (Pa.) in its final match of the Cornell Invitational Saturday. Earlier in the day, the Saints lost 3-1 to Lamar.

For the second straight day Siena played without its top two offensive players, senior captain Aubrey Bobo and freshman Taylor Akana.

In the first match of the day, the Saints lost in straight sets to Lamar (25-17, 25-18 and 26-24). Sarah Sivertson was the bright spot, posting 13 kills in a spot start on the outside.

Siena played a competitive third set, rallying to tie the score, 24-24, before losing consecutive points. Lesli Akeo had 12 of the team's 47 digs.

Lamar was led by Wendy Krell's 13 kills and Kaleigh Wright's 13 digs.

With its backs against the wall, and a trip to Oregon looming next week, the Saints used a balanced attack to pick up their first win of the season in the nightcap.

Siena earned a hard fought 28-26 win in the first set, lost the second 25-20, won 27-25 in the critical third set and clinched the victory with an easy 25-16 triumph in the fourth.

Brianne Bobo led three Saints in double figure kills with 13. Jasmine Brown and Blair Atkins each had 11. Akeo again starred on defense registering 19 digs, Aimee Gosse had 15 and Sivertson added 13.
