St. John's swept a nationally televised (ESPN3) non-conference volleyball match (25-16, 25-20 and 25-20) from Siena Monday afternoon in Queens. It was the second straight loss for Siena which opened its season Sunday with a 3-1 win over Coppin State before losing to Hofstra later in the afternoon.

The Johnnies never trailed in the first set, but led just 15-14 before winning 10 of the final 12 points. Siena rallied from 17-10 down in the second set to close within 21-20, but St. John's again finished strong winning the final four points to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Red Storm used a 4-0 run early in the final set to take an 8-4 lead and held control throughout to lock up the match.

Taylor Akana had eight kills and nine digs for Siena, and freshman setter Haley Howell finished off a strong opening weekend with 22 assists and three aces.

The road doesn't get any easier for Siena. The Saints play some of the top volleyball teams in the country in the Kansas State Invitational this weekend and the Texas A&M Tournament September 12-13.
