Senior standout Lauren Weber registered 26 of Siena's 55 kills, but it wasn't enough to offset a balanced Buffalo effort, as the Bulls hung on to defeat the Saints 3-1, spoiling the coaching debut of Garvey Pierre. Buffalo won games 1,2 and 4 by scores of 30-24, 30-22 and 30-24. The Saints took the third game 30-23.
The Saints used a deep rotation in their first match of the season, as 11 players saw action. Freshman Katie Borrett assumed the setting duties from the start, performing admirably in her first collegiate competition. Borrett compiled 43 of Siena's 47 sets. Classmate Christine Gustafson also had a strong effort playing all four games and collecting six kills and 11 digs in a losing effort.
Lindsay Matikosh led three Buffalo players in double figure kills with 23.
Weber was the story all night for the Saints, leading the way on both ends of the floor. Her 26 kills and 17 digs topped all players and her .447 hitting percentage was by far the highest on the team.
Siena will play two more matches on Saturday, the final day of the University at Buffalo Tournament.
