After completing one of the greatest careers in the history of Siena athletics, Burgandy McCurty will be on the sidelines this season assisting the program in a coaching capacity. McCurty is completing her master's degree at Siena, and although she has used all of her volleyball eligibility, she will be playing Division I women's lacrosse this spring for the Saints after joining that program last year.
"I am very pleased to have Burgandy back with our program," Head Coach Garvey Pierre said. "She knows what it takes to win and demands the best from everyone. She has been the face of our program for the past four years."
McCurty won her second consecutive Siena College Female Student-Athlete of the Year award in the spring after smashing the MAAC career kills record with 1,945 kills. She claimed her third straight MAAC Offensive Player of the Year award in 2009, setting school and league records with 5.37 kills per set. She ranked second in the nation in kills, kills per set, and points per set.
McCurty ranks first in program history with 4.27 career kills per set and third with 342 blocks. She finished her undergraduate degree with a 3.36 GPA in accounting.
It's expected that McCurty will bring great knowledge to the Saints' staff, especially with the development of the team's younger hitters.
