The Siena Women’s team will take on the third seeded Marist on Saturday, Apr. 29 at Mercer County Park in West Windsor Township, New Jersey at 10 a.m. The Saints have already had a season no one will soon forget as they started 15-0 to break the school record for best start to a season that was last set in 1949-50 by the men’s basketball program.
The Saints still have a ways to go to get to the ending they want, a MAAC Championship trophy and NCAA Tournament berth, and the first team standing in their way is Marist. Siena earned the #2 seeding by going 6-1 in MAAC play and falling in the regular to season to only MAAC Regular Season Champions, Quinnipiac.
During the regular season the Saints swept Marist 7-0 played back on Apr. 2. During doubles play the Saints took the point with wins from Ali Garrity and Mitsuki Fukamachi on court one, while Natalie Weaver and Ivana Boberic won on court two. When it came down to singles the Saints swept all six courts to take the match 7-0. It was a close fight on courts two and six that went to three sets, but the Saints pulled out the win against the MAAC foe.
The winner of the matchup will play in the Championship match on Sunday, Apr. 30 at 10 a.m. The winner will take on the winner of the quarterfinal match of #1 Quinnipiac against #4 Fairfield. The match will also take place at Mercer County Park in West Windsor Township, New Jersey at 10 a.m.
