The Siena men's and women's tennis teams were selected fifth in the annual Preseason MAAC Coaches Polls release Friday by the league office. The men return an experienced team, while the women boast one of the league's top players in junior Sarah Mayer.

The Marist men, who lost in the 2008 MAAC Championship Match to Manhattan, topped the poll with 63 points. The Marist women received 63 points, one shy of the maximum, as they look to repeat as MAAC Champions. The Siena men are led by juniors Jeremy Deuel and Nick Rutherford who have been playing first and second singles respectively since their freshman season. Siena had a 4-5 record in the fall and split its two MAAC matches.

The women feature Mayer and senior Karina Davis. Davis spent the fall semester performing a service internship in Kenya and will add a spark to the top of the Saints' rotation. The Siena women went 2-3 in the fall, winning both their home matches. The Saints did not have any fall MAAC matches, but Mayer and several teammates participated in two separate regional events.

The women open their season February 23 at Colgate. The men don't play until they host Fairfield in a league match on March 29.
