Siena Women’s Tennis took part in the first of a three day tournament hosted by the University of Buffalo. Two teams won their doubles matches in the first day.The University of Buffalo used names of different buffalo wing sauces and dipping sauces to call the different draws.
“This is a great tournament for us with every team here being extremely competitive and we got a couple very good wins today,” said head coach Jeff Osborn.
In the doubles “medium” Anessa Leyva and Natalie Weaver came away with a 6-4 win against Buffalo’s Abibula and Hollins. The two will take on Comella and Betinelli of Bowling Green. Ivana Boberic and Juliana Goehner also came away with a doubles win, but this one was in the doubles “mild” draw. The two took down Barcelo and Sharma of Eastern Michigan 7-5. They will face Kona and Miller of Duquesne.
Nanea Perkins and Kylie Mullaney played in the doubles “hot” draw and fell to Buffalo’s Stojanovaska and Savchenko and then lost in the back draw 6-2 to Toldeo’s Leenabanchong and Kendall-Woseley . Rina Sakai and Ann Phillips fell 6-2 against Sudhir and Siembida in the doubles “mild” draw. The pair will take on Mitrovic and Etienne od Duquesne in the back draw on Saturday.
Perkins found herself in the singles “blue cheese” draw and fell 6-0, 6-1 to Sanjana Sudhir of Buffalo.
Singles play for the rest of the team begins tomorrow, while the singles and doubles matches will continue in their semifinal rounds.
