Siena Women’s Tennis took down #3 Marist 4-2 in the MAAC Semifinals to advance to the MAAC Championship. Natalie Weaver clinched the victory to push the Saints to the Championship.
The Red Foxes started off strong and took the doubles point. Ali Garrity and Mitsuki Fukamachi remain undefeated in doubles as they won 6-0 on court one. Anessa Leyva and Rina Sakai also played it close on court three, but Marist was able to take advantage and take the win 6-4. Natalie Weaver and Ivana Boberic played a tight set at doubles two but fell 7-5. Marist led 1-0 heading into singles.
Garrity continued her dominance in singles on court one and quickly swept 6-3, 6-2 to tie the match 1-1 with Marist. Sakai took the first set 6-1 and played a close set with Morlock of Marist, but Sakai was victorious 7-5 and gave the Saints a 2-1 lead. Marist came back to tie the match up 2-2 with a 2-6, 7-6 (7-2) victory on court three over Fukamachi.
With the score all tied up, Leyva and Brozovich on court six put up a fight. Leyva took the first set 6-3 but Brozovich came back to take set two 6-2. It was Leyva who would come out victorious in the third set 6-4 to put the Saints up 3-2. Weaver on court four was the deciding factor for the Saints in the matchup. After taking the first set 7-5, she fell 6-1 to Moeller but took the third set 6-4 to clinch the victory and send the Saints to MAAC Championship.
The championship match will be played at Mercer County Park in West Windsor Township, New Jersey on Sunday, Apr. 30 at 10 a.m. The Saints are set to take on the #1 seed Quinnipiac.
