The Siena women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-2 decision to visiting Fairfield Friday at Schenectady's Central Park, and in the process the team was eliminated from MAAC Tournament contention. Prior to the match, the Saints recognized their senior class of Jennifer Galante, Kellie Scullin, Nicole Ross, Danielle Crill and Jasleen Sandhu.

"It was an emotional day for everyone," head coach Andy Christodoulou said. "We are graduating five wonderful young ladies. We played hard, and I am very proud of the team. I will miss them all, but they know once a Saint always a Saint."

The Saints lost their final three MAAC matches after starting the year 3-1 in conference play. On Friday, they had to play without freshman Jessica Macaluso - the team's leader in singles victories, and junior Brittany Filip. Both players sat out with injury.

In their place, freshman Cassie Braz moved up to play No. 4 singles and won an exciting three-set match in a super tiebreaker, and Elora Benfer won at no. 6 singles for Siena's other point. Benfer finished off a perfect 6-0 season in MAAC play at No. 6 singles.

"It was great to see Cassie work hard, and come back to win her match when everyone was done and ready to move on," assistant coach Denisa Hluchova said. "It was good for her to learn not to give up until the match us over."
