January 14, 2013

FLORIDA - To cap off their week-long Florida training trip, the Siena swimming and diving team has released their traditional music video.

The video was filmed and produced by athletes on the squad and showcases the team in various location lip dubbing to the song Die Young written by pop-star Ke$ha.

The Final Day- Kelly Levine's Post

January 10, 2013

FLORIDA - We all woke up this morning in great moods, we could see the light at the end of the tunnel, only one more practice left and the training trip would be over. Unfortunately, this practice happened to be a particularly difficult one. Coach Kueterman had the swimmers complete his favorite test set, 7X 300s freestyle descend.

After this set everyone was pretty tired, Coach Kueterman decided to do something different and picked Erika Seagren and Lauren Daly to coach the rest of practice. They chose to do a bunch of fun things with the team, for instance swimming like ducks. The divers continued to practice their dives and they looked awesome as usual. I have an injury to my shoulder so I continued my running workouts by running around a lake a million times (or at least that's what it felt like). After practice ended we persuaded Coach Kueterman to take us to Chick-Fil-A, a popular fast food place in the South. I'm not a big fast food junkie, but I have to admit it was pretty good.

Workout Day- Amanda York's Post

January 9, 2013

FLORIDA - Hello all, Amanda York here to tell you about our tan-tastic Tuesday. We began the day at seven and discussed our favorite television shows from when we were younger all the way to the pool. It seemed that the most popular ones were Rocket Power, Full House, Laguna Beach, and, of course, The Hills.

Once we arrived at the pool, we were all in really great moods because the sun was out and it felt warm. Little did we know we were about to be in for another difficult but quality filled practice. Strokers faced the popular hundreds descending to an all out sprint set, while sprinters went through a series of fast fifties and an immense amount of kicking. Distance did a ladder set, and the divers were faced to cope with a strenuous dry land set that consisted of flipping gigantic tires.

High Up In A Tree- Kathleen Ackert's Post

January 8, 2013

FLORIDA - All has been well these past few days by the diving boards. Sunburns are abundant and everyone was rested from the day off yesterday. Breakfast was bright and early this morning as we left for the pool by 7:30. Today, sick/injured Lea Allen joined the divers in their morning dryland practice, which included a beach run, a circuit set on the playground, the climbing up a huge tree, and creeping on a jazzercise class in the park. Although we are sore and tired from these past few days of running, dryland, and diving, we made it through the workout.

We got back to the pool just as the swimmers were finishing their workout, which included a deathly I.M. set for the stroke group, a 1000 for time for the distance group, and a kick and swim series for the sprinters. We met up with Kelly Levine who has been running miles each day due to a shoulder injury. Unfortunately, it was not too sunny after morning practice so instead of going back to the beach some of us went straight up to our rooms for a nap, while some of us made a second trip to Publix because our food storage have been depleted. On that ride, Shannon Love insulted the ginger population of the world, which caused Paul to say that she is going to be doing a distance workout tomorrow.

Life Is Like A Box of Chocolate- Shannon Love's Post

January 7, 2013

FLORIDA - Just when we thought our bodies were about to physically collapse from soreness and exhaustion, we were granted the glorious opportunity to spend a day in the Florida sunshine and escape practice for a mere 24 hours. As expected, our team slept in to rest our aching muscles and prepare for the exciting adventures planned for the day.

The first stop was a trip to the nearby Waffle House for a hearty breakfast of bacon, biscuits, and, of course, waffles. We then ventured out to the beach to enjoy the beautiful beach that our hotel is conveniently located on. It was perfect: 72 degrees, blue skies, a bright sun, and a gentle breeze. Our afternoon was spent tanning, taking several pictures, and filming for our music video. As the day wore on, we slowly started to head back towards our hotel, some of us making pit stops at the pool and hot tub.

COP Time- Katherine Canavan's Post

FLORIDA - After a cloudy first day in St. Petersburg, the sun decided to come through the clouds and make an appearance at the morning practice we had. As a result, the attitude of the team was very chipper.

Getting Started

January 5, 2013

FLORIDA - I'll never complain about training trip's timing. Right when I think I'll die if I spend another holiday with my family, and right when I need a dose of palm trees and saltwater to break the late-December monotony, there it is; Siena swim/dive's annual escape to the sunshine state.

We all arrived yesterday at different times, and were welcomed by Florida's oppressive humidity. We spent a little time at Tampa-native Emily's house while we waited for everyone's flights to get in. Mrs. Carideo had so thoughtfully picked us up a huge platter of Chic-Fil-A nuggets (A staple of Southern cuisine, and a welcomed sight for me).

FLORIDA - We are very excited to be in the Sunshine State for our annual training trip. Throughout the week we will document our stay here, through all the hard work and the good times that we have.

This is a great way to build even more team chemistry while working hard for the end of the season.
