LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Siena swimming and diving has announced the addition of three new student athletes in the incoming class of 2018. Erica Askew, Fiona Dretzka and Brigid Wynne will attend Siena College this Fall and compete next season for Paul Kueterman’s Saints.

“This class will be fun to watch.  They possess strengths in the pool and the classroom.  They are goal-oriented and hard working.  I know that they will be a tremendous addition to the swim/dive program and to the Siena College community.”

Erica Askew

Erica Askew, a Johnstown, N.Y. native will be a graduate of Johnstown high school. Erica won the 200-yard Individual Medley and the 100 – yard breaststroke in the 2013 New York HS Division II swim/dive meet.  In the 100-yard breaststroke, Askew broke the Johnstown school record of 1:07.57 that was set in 1985 with her time of 1:05.89.  Askew also tied the Shenendehowa pool record that was set in 2012. Erica qualified for the New York High School State Swimming and Diving Meet in the 100-yard breaststroke and finished 13th overall.

“I look for Erica to have an immediate impact in our program.  She works hard in the pool and in the classroom. She will be a strong competitor in dual meets and at the conference championships. I am looking forward to watching her compete in the years ahead.”

Fiona Dretzka a native of Northglenn, Colo. will attend Siena from Legacy high school. Fiona will swim and play water polo for the Saints.  Fiona swims for the RallySport Aquatic Club out of Colorado.  This past year at the 2014 Colorado Senior State Meet, Fiona placed in the top 5 in multiple events.  She qualified for the 2014 USA Swimming Speedo Championships in multiple events as well. Fiona also competes in triathlons and this August she will participate in the Boulder Ironman.  She plays water polo for the Colorado Pirates and in 2013 she was invited to the National Team Selection Camp.

“Fiona is a very talented swimmer and she also excels in the classroom.  She’s a great addition to the program and will help us immediately.  Fiona has the ability to score in multiple events in the conference championships and I look forward to working with her.”

Brigid Wynne of Pearl River, NY (Pearl River HS) is the third member of the 2018 incoming class. Brigid was a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay that finished top 3 at the 2013 Division 4 Swimming and Diving Championships.  She placed top 10 in the 50-yard freestyle at the 2013 Division 4 Swimming and Diving Championships.

“Brigid is a great person and student. She displays great character and she’s always positive.  She will add important depth to our team.  She is very dedicated and wants to be successful and I look for her to improve significantly over the season.”

 The Saints, currently in their fifth year under coach Paul Kueterman finished fifth at the 2014 MAAC Championships. Siena loses four players from last year’s squad in captains Christen Cherry and Dana Tricarico along with Lea Allen and junior Kelly Levine
